SUBMISSION WINDOW: CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATORS
Fiz Osborne will be open to submissions from traditionally published children's book illustrators between 1st and 7th November 2025 (inclusive).
Please note: submissions sent outside of this time period will not receive a response.
In this one-week submission window, Fiz will consider children's book illustrators whose portfolios span any of the following genres: picture books, non-fiction, chapter books, middle grade, teen and young adult. Fiz is looking for imaginative, ambitious and collaborative illustrators who are not only looking for an agent in the traditional sense but also a creative partner who will brainstorm, hone and structurally critique ideas, samples and portfolio pieces. Creative Roots Studio is not just a literary and illustration agency, it's also a creative studio that pairs high-quality concepts with talented creatives, and this approach is an especially effective route to publishing for illustrators who are open to innovative and flexible ways of working.
This submission window is open to all traditionally published illustrators, and Fiz would especially love to see submissions from illustrators who are underrepresented in publishing, including but not limited to those who are: people of colour, LGBTQIA+, working class, disabled, neurodiverse, living with a chronic illness, living in the north of the UK or aged over 55.
Creative Roots Studio is a boutique business and as such this particular submission window is only open to illustrators who are already traditionally published. If you are an unpublished illustrator, please watch our socials for updates on future submission windows as our agency continues to grow.
Submission guidelines
Submissions will only be accepted by email to the following address: fiz@creativerootsstudio.com.
The subject of the email should begin with the word “SUBMISSION” followed by your name. Please also include the hashtag #underrepresented if you identify as such, along with relevant hashtags to elaborate on this.
For example: SUBMISSION [Your Name] [#underrepresented] [#workingclass]
In your covering email, please:
-
Share a bit about yourself, including details of your published books.
-
List the countries in which your books have co-editioned, if applicable.
-
Tell Fiz which projects you've most enjoyed working on, which projects you would rather not work on moving forwards and which projects you haven't yet worked on but would like to.
-
If you haven’t been agented before, please let Fiz know what skills and characteristics you hope to find in an agent, and why you are seeking an agent at this point in your career.
-
If you have been agented before, please share why the previous agency wasn’t the right fit and explain what worked well for you and what you want to work differently in your next agent relationship.
When sharing your portfolio, please:
-
Attach a minimum of ten samples of your work.
-
Include links to your website and Instagram page, if applicable.
-
Share a variety of samples, including, if possible, double-page scenes, single-page scenes, vignettes/spot illustrations and character sketches.
-
Ensure your email does not exceed 5MB.
Please remember that submissions sent outside of the specified time period of 1st - 7th November 2025 will not receive a response.
Response time
We aim to respond within 12-16 weeks. You're welcome to let us know if you receive interest from another agent or a publisher, but otherwise please do not chase us within 16 weeks of submitting.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to give personalised feedback for every submission, but please do not be disheartened if you receive a standard reply. There are many reasons an agent might not offer representation. Views are subjective and another agent may feel differently, so don’t give up!
